What do you do if your beloved pet dies at home?
In most cases, you’d call the vet, right?But why do you call the vet?
The answer is usually “Because we don’t know who else to contact”!
And herein lies the problem! Typically, the vet would be the point of contact because there is no alternative… or so people are led to believe!
Some veterinary practises will sell you a cremation through crematoria that the vet group themselves own. Others will recommend a local, independent crematorium that will take wonderful care of your pet. However, this is increasingly rare as the corporations are taking over.
What many people aren’t aware of is that most group owned veterinary practises that offer their own cremation service will store pets in a plastic bag in a freezer until collection day. Collections are made in large vans weekly, and will include the collection of other “clinical waste” for disposal.
Here are a few questions to ask:
1. Will my pet be treated respectfully?
2. How and where will they be stored?
3. When will they be collected?
4. What crematorium do they use and where is it?
5. Will my pet be individually cremated in a sealed single chamber?
6. Is a casket/scatter tube included in the price?
7. How long will it be until my pet is returned to me and how will they be returned?
8. And of course… the price!
What are the alternatives?
Not all pet cremation services are the same. It pays to plan in advance wherever possible. If your pet is old or living with a life-limiting illness, then as hard as it may be to even contemplate, if you want your pet cremated, research all of your options. It will save you so much stress and upset when the time comes to say goodbye.

1. Will my pet be treated respectfully? Most definitely. From the time of collection, be that from home or the vets, your beloved pet will be treated with the utmost care and respect.
2. How and where will they be stored? Your pet will be cremated on the day of collection. If they are cremated the following day they will be placed in a pet basket in a temperature controlled area.
3. When will they be collected? Your pet will be collected within 2 hours of us receiving your instruction and taken directly to the crematorium where they will be cremated that day if arriving before 16.00 hrs or the following day if arriving later.

5. Will my pet be individually cremated in a sealed single chamber? Most definitely. All individual cremations are guaranteed and certified. Only one pet per chamber and, if it can be safely added, you can include a small toy or memento to be placed in the chamber too.
6. Is a casket/scatter tube included in the price? Prices are inclusive of collection and return to home address, and dark or light wood casket with brass engraved name plate or a scatter tube. Other styles of urn and additional keepsakes such as plaster paw prints or jewellery are available upon request.
7. How long will it be until my pet is returned to me and how will they be returned? Your pet’s ashes will be returned to you by the end of the next working day and will be personally delivered directly to your door.
