We take great care in selecting our host families, ensuring they meet our high standards of care and compassion for dogs. Before your dog’s stay, you will have the opportunity to meet and get to know the host family, giving you peace of mind and confidence that your furry friend will be in the best possible hands. Our host families only have one dog staying at any one time, or up to three from the same household. This way they can treat your dog like a member of their own family, offering the same comforts and routines your dog enjoys in their own home.
First For Pets is proud to hold 5-star rated Animal Boarding licenses across all our host families. We take the responsibility of caring for your dog seriously and adhere to the highest standards of safety, hygiene, and well-being. To ensure the well-being and compatibility of all dogs in our care, we kindly ask that your dog meets the following requirements:
Up-to-date Vaccinations: Please ensure that your dog’s vaccinations are current, as this helps maintain a healthy and safe environment for all our canine guests.
Flea and Worming Treatment: Prior to their stay, your dog should be up to date with flea and worming treatments to prevent any discomfort or infestations.
Well-Behaved and Toilet Trained: We welcome dogs who are well-behaved and fully toilet trained. This ensures a harmonious and enjoyable experience for all dogs and host families.
Friendly and Well-Socialised: Dogs who are friendly and well-socialised with other dogs and humans thrive in our home boarding environment. It allows for positive interactions and a sense of camaraderie during their stay.

Stephanie Shore2024-03-30Donna. Geoff and their team are an exceptional group of caring people. Donna was caring for our cats when we were away for a weekend and we saw on Facebook that a cat had been killed on the road near our house. Donna was amazing, she headed straight over and spent ages looking until she found him on the side of the road. She took him to a vet to be scanned and confirmed that it was our beloved cat, Odin. We were totally devastated but Donna was so caring. She arranged for Odin to be cremated and then returned his ashes to us as soon as we got home. Everything was handled with kindness and sensitivity. In addition to the shock and sadness at Odin’s death we were really worried about our other cat, Odin’s brother, as they were so close. The photos and videos Donna sent us of him were so reassuring that he was doing alright. Everything was handled with care and professionalism and we are so grateful to Donna and Geoff.
Claire Price2024-03-26A big thanks to Donna who recently looked after Alan & Boomer for two weeks. They had so much fun despite the rain and they even got to go to daycare a few times to play with other dogs, which they loved. Alan has epilepsy so we worry when we leave him, but Donna was brilliant at giving his meds and looked after him when he had a seizure, which is a difficult thing to watch. I think they miss her and keep waiting for her to come back. I have every confidence in her and her team to look after my boys. Highly recommend! Thanks Donna

Lesley Herriott2024-03-05I cannot recommend this company more highly. I have been able to turn to them when I've been desperate for help. I have boarded my dog in his foster home through them and the quality of service was absolutely amazing. He is epileptic and so I needed to feel completely happy with who was looking after him - and I did! Recently I have broken both my wrists and wasn't able to walk my dog but I have had a walker every day for him. They came and has an introductory visit with him. This meant I could meet them and they could meet him. They took him out on a regular basis at a time which suited me but wasn't necessarily the same time every day. He's not the easiest of dogs to walk as he is large and strong. He's also very determined about where he wants to walk! They all coped admirably with him. I got a full resume of what had happened during the walk as well as pictures and videos and it was nice to see him with a smile on his face, showing me he was enjoying himself. The fact that he was happy to go with them meant a lot to me. Even when we were surrounded by floods Donna managed to get here, be it a little late and he still had his full hours walk. I found them totally reliable and extremely pleasant. It is so reassuring to know you have people you can turn to when you really need help.
Preeti K2024-03-02I have been with First for Pets since the very beginning and Donna and Jeff have been amazing from the first day I met them. Over the years my beloved Labrador benefitted from day visits, regular weekly walks, dog boarding and in recent years as he got older dog sitters at home. Every single person who cared for Sherlock was reliable, professional, kind and loved animals. He sadly passed away very suddenly last month after becoming acutely unwell and Jeff was there for him on a Sunday with his ambulance service to get him to the emergency vet. If you are looking for an excellent pet service with people who really care about your furry family member, this is the team for you. Thanks for everything 🙏🏽
